Essay Writing - Creating a Sense of Place in Writing

Essay Writing - Creating a Sense of Place in WritingAs an essay writing teacher, I always tell my students to create a sense of place in their essay writing. But why?To help you create a sense of place in your essay writing, I'm going to explain the steps I use to create this sense of place. The first step is using a map or guide. Most of the time, people write from memory. Unfortunately, the written word isn't quite like riding a bike, but it doesn't need to be.You can draw a map or guide to help you write your essay. You may find it helpful to draw or write on a sheet of paper (which I highly recommend) and trace a map or road. With a pen, draw one way on the paper. Then, mark the other way. From there, you should add a few lines or words that describe this new way of traveling. This is an essential part of creating a sense of place in writing. For example, 'Traversed through the woods.'Now you're ready to start writing your essay. If you haven't yet, make sure you create a map. It' s easy to slip into writing from memory. You don't want to forget to put something on the map. Now, you're ready to begin writing your essay. If you like to create a sense of place in writing, you'll be surprised at how much easier your essay will become.Because it's more organized, your essay will flow more smoothly and have a more logical flow. Remember, you want to use the words as a map for your reader. It's like having a map that has markers for every route. Also, when you feel like you're getting somewhere, or that you know what you're talking about, you can turn to your map and add a few more ideas that will help to create the sense of place you're trying to achieve. Think about the reason you're reading the essay in the first place. Use the map as a tool to help you express yourself.
